Thank you for taking a minute to find out more about the hands behind all these handcrafted goods! My name is Heather and I'm the sole proprietor of Magnolia Skies, in other words, I'm the creator and designer of everything you find here, from the clothing to the website to the shipping of your orders, I do it all! I currently live in Connecticut with my husband and our furry family of two cats and a dog. After a few summers of selling my goods at different shows I knew I wanted to be able to share my creative energy year round with the world... So with lots of determination, late nights, and work, Magnolia Skies was created in 2004. Over the past couple years Magnolia Skies has grown and expanded thanks to the continued support of my customers, family, and friends.

Magnolia Skies is a part time adventure for me- by day I'm also a part time environmental geologist working for a small environmental company. Creating things for Magnolia Skies keeps me sane, working part time as an environmental geologist keeps me grounded.

The staple of Magnolia Skies is my wearable art and eco-conscious hemp clothing. Designing and creating clothing is what I'm passionate about, it's the way I release my creative energy. I especially love working with and hand-dyeing sustainable hemp fabrics. Being able to bring an environmentally friendly fabric such as hemp into my creations just makes it all the more rewarding for me. My inspiration comes from the everyday people I meet, music, nature, and the places I've visited.

Magnolia Skies has grown to include crocheted goods, jewelry, hand-dyed hemp fabric, and herbal body products, as well as handcrafted native american art by guest artist Janis Us. Working to create high quality body products has become a passion of mine in the recent years. I love the science behind essential oils and I especially love being able to make my own body products out of mostly natural ingredients, knowing what's going onto my body and sharing this with others. Crocheting and knitting bring me back to my roots, allowing me to take something I learned from my mother and grandmothers and add my own energy to it.

A few of my other interests include the outdoors, music, learning, being crafty, and being with friends, family, and my pets. I am an avid outdoors gal, I love doing anything outdoors, especially hiking, camping, and biking. In August of 2006 I received my Bachelor of Science in Earth Science/Geology. My interest in the earth and helping preserve it brought me to study earth science. It took me a few years longer to finish my degree, with a few breaks in between to experience a life beyond school, but I did it and it was worth it! My brain just doesn't function right if I'm not learning or teaching myself new things. I love anything crafty and handmade. I am constantly picking up new crafty hobbies, so don't be surprised to see some new categories in my boutique!

With each day that passes, I continue to strive towards a more eco-friendly life, and this gets passed along to my business in the form of my new creations. Starting in November 2006 100% of the electricity my family consumes at home comes from the renewable clean energy of wind power. What does that mean to you as a customer of Magnolia Skies? It means the electricity used to sew your clothing item, to power the computer used for emails and the website, to power the stove I use to heat up oils in my body products, all the things in my home business that use electicity come from a renewable energy source! Just another step towards becoming the green business I envision!

Thank you for visiting Magnolia Skies and supporting independent artists! I could not have done this without everyone who has supported me in this adventure!
